Antigua:
28/4/04
I have been back in Antigua since 17th April, getting Pinball ready for the return trip. Susan will be joining me on 1st May and a new crew member John Lawrence will join us a day or two later.
We haven’t met John yet, but he is a fairly experienced sailor, a trained chef and a communications engineer, so he should be very handy to have on board.
The boat is in very good shape
with a lots of work done including:
• A new wind vane autopilot fitted
• The steering problem fixed, it was very stiff and the electric autopilot
couldn’t cope.
• The bottom scraped and antifouled
• The topsides polished
• All sails repaired, including the ripped spinnaker.
• A new spinnaker purchased
• New ladders fitted
• The genoa pole is being fixed, the end came apart on the ARC
• New quick release mechanism for the spinnaker sheets.
The boat is topped up with diesel and we are ready to go.
It is very hot here mid 30’s although it has been showery for the past few days and the marina is located in an area infamous for mosquitos. I am however just about coping, I just need a regular supply of cold beer.
Until 5th may I can be contacted by email to my normal Freeserve address or by text to my mobile. Calls to my mobile are very expensive.
All future updates will be via the website, my son will be updating the site regularly once we get going from 6th May.
